Established in 1977, the library at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) is recognized as one of the premier research libraries among think tanks in Pakistan. The library offers a comprehensive collection of both print and electronic resources, aligning closely with the institute’s objectives. It systematically acquires materials that contribute to the generation of new knowledge, support national interests, and advance strategic goals.
Currently, the library houses an extensive collection, including over 16,500 printed books, 3,000 journals, and 4,000 magazines in its archives. The library staff ensures that the catalog is updated daily, facilitating seamless access to resources. In addition to its impressive print collection, the library maintains a unique and extensive digital repository, providing access to 700,000 e-books, one million articles, and 20,000 journals in the field of social sciences.
To further enhance research and knowledge dissemination, the library offers daily email services, sharing 15 trending articles, a "Book of the Day," and a "Journal of the Day" from prestigious academic databases such as Taylor & Francis, Sage Publications, SpringerLink, Project Muse, and Wiley Interscience. Additionally, the library provides on-demand materials at nominal charges and facilitates access to the latest magazines and paid articles through WhatsApp services.
The ISSI Library attracts a diverse membership, including scholars, academics, diplomats, members of the defense sector, and researchers in the social sciences. Membership is open to all individuals, irrespective of caste, creed, or religious background, reinforcing the library’s commitment to inclusivity and knowledge sharing.
